Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why do I keep getting asked to sign up when I’ve already signed up or when I’m following a link from the newsletter?

If you’re seeing a “Sign up” prompt when trying to read an article, it’s because you’re signed out in that browser, which means our website can’t tell whether or not you’ve already signed up, even if you’re following a link from the newsletter. Please click “Log in” and use the email address and password you entered when you first signed up.

  2. I already pay for a subscription — why is the site asking me to sign up?

This is similar to the answer above about why you might get asked to sign up even if you already have an account. Unless you’re logged in, our website doesn’t have any way of knowing whether or not you have a subscription. If you already have a print subscription, you just need to create a free website account and then link your print subscription, which will give you access to all your subscription benefits.

  3. I used to be able to read for free after signing up for the newsletter. What changed?

On January 6, 2021, we launched our digital subscription. Vocations and Prayer has always relied on the support of our readers, but previously, our print subscribers and donors had been subsidizing free access to web content for the over one million people who visit vcationsandprayer.org every month.

As more and more of our editorial effort is devoted to producing great digital-first content on the website as well as in podcasts and video, we’re asking readers on the web to help support our mission directly via a digital subscription.

Readers who sign up for the newsletter have access to a limited number of free articles each month. To keep reading with unlimited access and other benefits listed above, we ask you to purchase a subscription and help make sure America remains as strong in the future as it has been since 1909.

If you aren’t able to afford a subscription, please get in touch and we will help you out.

  1. I’ve logged in once already — why do I need to keep logging in?

In order to keep you logged in, our website sets a “cookie” in your browser. Each separate device (computer, tablet, phone) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, etc.) has its own cookies and needs to get logged in individually. Additionally, on mobile devices, many apps such as Facebook and Twitter open links within in-app browsers, which again have their own cookies separate from the main browser app on the device.

You may need to log in once in each separate browser or app you use to access the site, or you can open the link in your main browser app instead of an in-app browser.

While we do our best to keep you logged in after you’ve logged in once, sometimes browsers may delete or reset their cookies and log you out — since this happens under the control of individual browsers and devices and according to their privacy settings, we can’t always keep you permanently logged in.

  2. Why does it say my email and password don’t match?

The two most common causes of password problems are (1) typos or caps-lock when entering or resetting a password and (2) autocomplete filling in an old or incorrect password. Most people who run into this problem are able to fix it by resetting the password and then logging in immediately afterwards.

If the site doesn’t recognize the password you’re entering, the best solution is to click the “Reset my password” link. That will send you an email with a link that will allow you to set a new password. Please make sure that you are typing the exact password you intend without autocomplete or autocorrect features changing your entry. Once you’ve reset the password, you can use it to login again.

If the site is asking you to confirm an old password as part of changing to a new one, that’s because you’re already logged in in that browser, to make sure that it’s you rather than someone else changing your password. The solution is (we know this might sound odd) to log out first, and then reset your password. Because the password reset process sends a link to your email, you can use that link, instead of remembering an old password, to prove the account belongs to you.

Note: We store passwords in a securely encrypted format, so we are unable to read your password to check whether or not it matches what you expect. If you already reset your password and the new one isn’t working, the best option is to reset it again, being extra careful about typos and autocomplete not getting in the way.

No one from America Media will ever ask you for your password either by phone or by email.

  3. I’ve tried everything I can to log in and I’m still stuck.

Please contact support and we’ll work with you to make sure you can get logged into the website and access all your subscription benefits.

  1. I’m a donor to Vocations and Prayer Media — how do I get access?

First of all, thank you for your support! Donors who give $100 or more receive a complimentary print subscription. The first monthly issue of your complimentary subscription should arrive one or two months after you made your donation.

If you have any questions about digital access for donors, please contact our advancement team.
